Ikat design are masterfully tied into patterns representing birds (“pajaro”) to create this beautiful, bold indigo blanket. Cotton threads are naturally dyed using ground indigo stone and handwoven on traditional Mayan backstrap looms. Each woman can only weave panels, or “lienzos”, as wide as her hips so this large blanket is made up of three panels that are connected using a “randa” stitch. This blanket takes six days to dye, weave, and hand stitch together. Finished with macramé fringe and long tassels. Due to its handcrafted nature, each blanket varies slightly.

This blanket helps provide education and health care for the children of the Single Mothers Cooperative.
